Oct. 8--AMMAN -- The government intends to replace guest labour with local workers as part of its plan to minimise violations of foreign workers' rights in the Qualified Industrial Zones (QIZ), Minister of Labour Bassem Salem said on Saturday. A study released by the Labor Ministry this month reveals that 28 per cent of the 180,000 unemployed Jordanians are willing to work at the QIZ factories for a JD100-150 monthly salary. Salem said the number of Jordanians willing to work in the QIZs would increase if the salary were higher.
