- Big industry's push for cheaper power made some headway, after the state-owned National Power Corp. (Napocor) and Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) jointly petitioned regulators for an immediate provisional authority allowing them to implement a program aimed at cutting electricity rates. Napocor and Meralco, the countrys largest distributor with over 70 per cent of the electricity market, have asked the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for an immediate provisional authority that would allow them to implement a scheme allowing large electricity users to buy cheaper power.
