Despite Albert Schweitzer the quest for the historical Jesus continues unabated. Recently the Roman Catholic scholar, John P. Meier produced A Marginal Jew and E. P. Sanders' latest book engages in the same activity. Those who have already studied Jesus and Judaism will be familiar with much of the background of this latest work but it is immensely readable in its own right. The introduction is very valuable in describing the problems about investigating the history of Jesus and comparing this with the history of Jefferson or Churchill's treatment of the miners' strike in 1911.
