Oct. 10--In 1979, Belfonte Pieri took a leave from his job as a machinist to realize a long-held dream of opening his own restaurant. Mr. Pieri never had to go back to his old job. Bacchanalia on South Oakley Avenue was almost immediately a success thanks to the cooking skills Mr. Pieri picked up at his mother's side during a boyhood in Tuscany.
Mr. Pieri, 74, died of a heart attack on Sunday, Oct. 8, in his home, which is just around the corner from Bacchanalia, said his daughter, Paula Bogolin. The restaurant for many years has been run by Bogolin and her brother, and it will remain open under their management, she said....
