US Patent 6 622 312 discloses a method for attaching elastic or decorative trimmings along the edges of garments without the need for sewing operations.
Patent Assignee Alba-Waldensian Inc of Valdese, North Carolina, USA, says that the trimmings used are based on thermoplastic fibres, it is suggested that any trimming should contain at least 60% of thermoplastic fibres, but it claims that the edges may be attached to any fabric, thermoplastic or not.
Trimming is wrapped around the fabric edge so that the edge of the material is sandwiched between two opposing portions of the trimming. This is then heated to cause the trimming to become plastic and flow ...
