Iox Co, a materials development start-up based in Osaka, Japan, has commercialized a technology to fabricate metal nanoparticles at one-tenth the normal cost. The company is set to begin mass-producing cobalt nanoparticles this month.
Iox intends to then gradually broaden its production capacity to include nanoparticles of silver, copper, nickel and iron.
Metal nanoparticles have a variety of promising applications in the automotive and electronics sectors. For example, a condenser made from nanoparticles would be able to hold more charge as the particles offer more surface area than typical microparticles.
