Oct. 9--Despite assurances that gasohol is safe for older engines, senior technicians and executives of local auto companies recommend Octane 91 gasoline as a better choice than the ethanol-blended fuel.

Last week, the Energy Ministry and PTT Plc ministry presented test results of older cars fuelled by gasohol, a blend of 90 percent gasoline and 10 percent ethanol, to bolster claims that gasohol could be used in cars made before 1996.

The tests were conducted on a 1.3-litre Toyota Corolla with a 2E engine, a 1.5-litre Honda Civic with a CVC engine, and a 1.5-litre Mitsubishi Lancer with a 4G-15 engine. The cars had ...
