WAL-MART IS THE MOST identifiable name in Arkansas retailing, and McDonald's enjoys that status in the restaurant industry.
Now, as part of a national market test, the giants are teaming up for business in two northeast Arkansas cities -- Pocahontas and Jonesboro.
McDonald's franchisees are operating what used to be the snack bars at the two Wal-Mart Supercenter locations. The national market test involves 88 Wal-Mart locations nationwide, but the Feb. 7 openings were firsts for Arkansas.
"It's starting with the Supercenters and will go from there," says Tim Thomas, who bought the McDonald's franchises in Pocahontas and Walnut Ridge in July 1992.
