Generally, investigations of gender issues in leisure behavior have established differences between the leisure of men and women. For example, Shaw (1985) concluded that men experienced significantly more leisure than women and that weekends provided more leisure for men than for women. Subsequently, Shaw (1988) documented gender differences in the experiencing of the same activity, reporting that men experienced four times more leisure within the context of household labor than did women.
