Over the past three decades, uranium has been an important Canadian energy resource, like oil, natural gas or coal. Canada is the world's leading producer of uranium. The uranium mines in Saskatchewan account for approximately 30 per cent of the world's total uranium production. Canada's uranium mining industry has sales in the order of half a billion dollars per year.
