Oct. 12--When it comes to employing his best Carpenter, Tony La Russa is pretty tough to nail down. Before last night's game was postponed, the Cardinals manager said he was leaning toward leaving his ace, Chris Carpenter, as the Game 3 starter for the first game in St. Louis Saturday, where Carpenter had the major league's best home ERA, 1.81. "There's an extra expectation, pressure, excitement and I think that Chris is a better choice for that game," La Russa said. But later last night, after Game 1 was postponed, he said he was wavering and that it was "up in the air" whether Carpenter would pitch Game 2 tomorrow or Game 3 Saturday. ...
