Although service-oriented architecture (SOA) has been a buzzword for several years, recent developments in standards and technologies have now moved it from the 'hype' stage to the 'early adopter' stage. There has been much debate on what SOA is - and is not - all about. In our view:
- SOA is a paradigm shift in business software development of an order of magnitude comparable to the rise of databases and object-oriented programming.
- SOA, in many ways, is a misnomer. What is revolutionary about SOA is not the 'services', but rather its approach towards 'processes'.
