PARIS, May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Rhone-Poulenc (NYSE: RP) and Akzo Nobel said they are planning to join forces in Europe in the soda ash business in the form of a joint venture. If plans go ahead, Rhone-Poulenc will hold 67% in the new joint venture, and Akzo Nobel the remaining 33%. With two factories in Europe, it would reach an annual soda ash production capacity of almost one million tons and sales in excess of one billion French francs. This joint venture would employ more than 5,600 people.
