The European Union's ban on genetically modified (GM) crops was illegal, the World Trade Organisation has confirmed in a final report.
But it seems unlikely that the ruling will have any great impact on Brussels' approvals process for GMOs.
The report backed preliminary decisions from the WTO in February and May that found that a moratorium on the authorisation of new GM seed products, in place from 1999 to 2004, broke international trade laws (see AE2207, 12.5.06, EP/4).
