The boom in the organic milk market in the UK could be at risk unless prices rise to meet farmers' costs, a leading organic cooperative has warned.

The Organic Milk Suppliers Cooperative (OMSCo) commented that organic milk production had risen over the past year in response to better farmgate returns, but claimed that soaring demand may not be met without "adequate financial support" for producers, Dairy Markets reports.

An immediate price increase was needed to bolster confidence as farmers made key production decisions for the next twelve months, OMSCo said in a statement released on Tuesday.
