Industries might offset defense losses, officials assert
Representatives from the entertainment and tourism industries stressed last week that growth in entertainment and tourism is vital to the economic turnaround of Los Angeles County and could help ameliorate the cuts in what was the county's biggest industry -- aerospace/defense.
And their common theme in speaking at a symposium in Santa Monica was that the county can no longer take tourism and entertainment-related economic activity for granted. Dozens, if not hundreds, of other communities in the United States are now competing for entertainment and tourism dollars, they noted.
