Talk about an assault! Television's coverage of the 50th anniversary of D-Day will be relentless.
All the big-gun anchors _ Rather, Jennings, Brokaw _ will be part of the action, as will old soldiers Cronkite and Brinkley and an army of smaller guns, from Harry Smith to Larry King. TV's D-Day invasion has already begun, and it won't let up for two weeks.
To a cynic, it's easy to see why D-Day has so much appeal to the networks. How could CBS's Dan Rather, the favorite whipping boy of right-wing media critics, resist the chance to do two hours of unabashedly patriotic programming with co-host Gen. H.
