AM I afraid of sharks?' drawls my rather dishy surf instructor as we gently bob on our boards. 'No. If they eat you, they eat you.' While he watches for the next set of breakers, I peer in panic down at my feet as they dangle in the water.
The Costa de la Luz in southern Spain isn't exactly shark central, but on the day before our first surfing lesson, my father and I had driven to the nearest fishing port, Barbate.
We'd been on a mission to find fresh tuna for some homemade sushi. We missed the tuna, and came face-to-jaws with a hammerhead shark being winched off a fishing boat.
