A renowned jazz violinist, along with a physician who studies African-American men's health issues and a social psychologist who analyzes the dynamics of interracial interactions are the Blacks among the 11 women and 14 men selected to receive the 2006 "genius grant," an award given each year for outstanding talents by the John D. and Catherine MacArthur Foundation.
Regina Carter, John A. Rich, Jennifer Richeson and 22 others now known as MacArthur Fellows, will receive $500,000, unrestricted "no strings attached" stipends paid annually in the amount of $100,000 in quarterly installments over the next five years.
