Oct. 17--The lawyer for former Waterbury Mayor Philip A. Giordano has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review Giordano's conviction on civil rights and other violations in connection with repeated sexual assaults of two young girls while he was in office. Attorney Andrew B. Bowman claims that Giordano's position as mayor -which drew him the most severe sentences for violating the victims' civil rights -- played no role in the sexual assaults. The victims were the 8-year-old daughter and 10-year-old niece of a prostitute, Guitana Jones, with whom Giordano had a longstanding sexual relationship that predated his election as mayor in 1995. ...
