Oct. 18--The recent rainfall that's covered the Southeast during the past two days is about two months too late to have any impact on area counties' struggling cotton crops this year. Lawrence and Limestone, two of the state's top cotton-producing counties, have seen a dramatic reduction in cotton yields compared to past years. According to Alabama Farm Service Agency calculations, Lawrence County farmers yielded an average of 675 pounds of cotton per acre in 2005.
