GRAPES--The recent heat has hurt the Thompson seedless crop from Delano to Fresno, CA. Recent daytime highs have been between 108 and 115 degrees. Shippers are very concerned about sunburn and discoloration on the Thompson seedless berries. Yields have been affected minimally, so the overall tonnage will remain fairly steady. The Flame seedless color will discolor slightly and is far less of an issue compared to the Thompson color.
Aside from decreased color, overall eating quality remains excellent. Berry sizing ranges from lot to lot, hence the price difference. Medium Flames are 10/16-of-an inch to 11/16-ofan inch, while the big lots are 12/16-of-an-inch to ...
