Over the years, I have found that helping students understand the concept of periodicity can be a difficult task. I developed an introductory activity that increases students' understanding of periodicity by relating the organization of the periodic table to something we have all seen-the cereal section of the grocery store. The idea occurred to me as I pushed my shopping cart down the grocery aisle, looking for a particular brand of cereal I had seen on TV.
