MINISTERS are set to demand that asylum seekers in Scotland should be given the legal right to work.
Under present laws, asylum seekers are barred from taking paid employment but are allowed to carry out voluntary work.
The rules exist because ministers at Westminster wanted to prevent foreigners who are not genuine asylum seekers actively targeting Britain to work for a short time before disappearing again, rather than because they are fleeing persecution.
