Olympic gold medal winner Ira Murchison, 61, who brought home a gold medal for the 400-meter relay in 1956 died recently of bone cancer at Ingalls Hospital in Harvey, IL.

Murchison grew up on Chicago's South Side and was the state champion in the 100- and 220-yard dashes in 1951. He was the collegiate champion in the 100 while attending Western Michigan University.
