Whittle shuts down Special Report network. (Whittle Communications L.P.)

Whittle Communications LP has halted the operations of its Special Report network for doctor's waiting rooms. The move is expected to result in the laying-off of almost 150 staffers. Whittler has instead chosen to focus on its other electronic properties, such as Channel One and the Medical News Network. Although the company considered Special Report a novel way of securing a captive audience when it was launched in 1988, the division was not able to produce profits within a three-year period.
