On July 27 the Geneva-based United Nations Human Rights Committee, which monitors the way signatories of the U.N. International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights fulfill their obligations under treaty, issued a 6,000-word report reprimanding the United States for its many violations of the covenant. The United States has until July 2007, to respond to the allegations of neglect of recognized human rights provided for in a treaty ratified by the United States and some 160 other nations.
