Disappearing green spaces are becoming a concern in Washington County, where housing developments are expected to bring 100,000 more people by 2020.
Voters will decide Nov. 7 whether to fund a $20 million special property tax to preserve an estimated 1,200 to 5,000 acres of open space and improve water quality in lakes and rivers.
Washington County is the only county in Minnesota with a land-preservation proposal on the ballot this year, although residents in two metro-area cities will vote on similar propositions: Andover for $2 million and Plymouth for $9 million.
