Oct. 23--The freshmen on the third floor of Ohio State's Stradley Hall were beginning to form those bonds that ease the longing for far-away families and friends and cushion the rough spots of the first year at an enormous university.
Andy "Polo" Polakowski's dormroom door often was open, an invitation for new friends to visit, said Asia Luke as she left Stradley yesterday afternoon.
"Our floor was starting to become a family," she said. "Everyone just feels for his family back home."
Polakowski, 18, was killed late Friday when he tried to exit a crowded elevator on the third floor.
