Oct. 24--William A. Konrad was an oil company executive when he read about Boca Raton in a London newspaper. The article left such an impression that he and his wife, Irene, decided to move to the city when he retired. Except Mr. Konrad didn't exactly retire. After arriving in Boca Raton in 1975, he got involved in local civic groups, then politics. Eventually, he rose to city councilman and then mayor from 1981 to 1987. Mr. Konrad died Saturday at Boca Raton Community Hospital after being hospitalized for about a week. He was a week shy of his 87th birthday. Mayor Steven Abrams ordered flags flown at half-staff today. ...
