Article: MUFG eyes restarting political donations.

Oct. 24--TOKYO -- Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. has started considering resuming donations to political parties by the year-end after a nine-year hiatus, sources familiar with the matter said Tuesday.

Nobuo Kuroyanagi, president of the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, which is the core of the holding company, told a news conference, "We will consider the (resumption) issue down the track, but it is an open question whether we will do so." The company appears to have judged that the completion of the repayment process of public funds which it borrowed in the late 1990s to replenish its depleted capital base has opened the path for resumption of such donations.
