Oct. 25--WACO -- In a stunning and swift end to the federal government's high-profile criminal case against the so-called Kickapoo Seven, five of the seven defendants accepted plea agreements Tuesday to minor charges.
All charges against a sixth defendant, lawyer Joe Ruiz, were dismissed. That left only Isidro Xavier Garza, whose tax evasion case has been severed from the rest, facing prosecution.
The group had faced charges ranging from stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Kickapoo tribe's casino to laundering money to violating the civil rights of tribal members who opposed them. Possible prison sentences ...
