Confusion over public disclosure of CAP subsidy data.(Ambiguity over responsibilities)(Common Agricultural Policy )

EU diplomats agreed on Thursday evening to break with tradition and to reveal to the outside world who receives what from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

Ambassadors dropped their objections to making public how much individual farmers and food companies receive from the EU kitty, agreeing "in principle" to open national farm accounts to public scrutiny (see AE2229, 13.10.06, EP/5).

However, this accord is not the end of the story. The names of the recipients of all EU funds--and the amounts they receive--can only be unveiled if the European Parliament agrees with the will of the Commission and EU ambassadors.
