Hungary to appeal to ECJ against EU maize ruling.(European Policy News)(reported arguments within the Commission over the impact of the new rules )(Brief article)

Hungary has confirmed that it will appeal to the European Court against a decision by the European Commission, finalised on Wednesday, to tighten quality rules for storing intervention maize.

"We maintain our view that [the revised maize ntervention] regulations are discriminatory, ill-timed and are implemented without prior impact studies," a spokesman for Hungary's ministry of agriculture, Andras Dekany, told Reuters.

"Therefore, the government will appeal against the decision at the European Court of Justice after making a ruling on this at next week's cabinet meeting," he added.
