The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is to produce a report on the possibility that BSE is present in sheep in early November, prompting speculation that the EU might have tighten legislation in this area.
Catherine Geslain-Laneelle, the newly appointed executive director of EFSA, told journalists in Brussels on Wednesday that the agency had been working closely with the French Food and Safety Authority (AFSSA), which would publish its opinion on the potential risk of BSE in sheep and goats in the next few weeks.
