Just think what a Rose Bowl it would be if it was the Big Ten champion against unbeaten USC on Jan. 1.
In a past life of college football, maybe. It can't happen now because the Bowl Championship Series will pair the top two teams in its final rankings on Jan. 8 in Glendale, Ariz., and the Big Ten winner, either Ohio State or Michigan, is certainly headed there and the No. 2 Trojans would be the opponent, if they can negotiate a final month of Oregon, California, Notre Dame and UCLA.
So what would be left for the Rose Bowl? Boise State and Rutgers?
