Oct. 27--STAMFORD -- After four years representing Stamford and Darien in the state Senate, Democrat Andrew McDonald is facing a challenge from a political newcomer who moved to the city to run for the seat.
Republican Rick Giordano said he was inspired to enter public service in Stamford, where he was born and raised, after beating a rare form of endocrine cancer. McDonald has been trying to use Giordano's 27-year absence from Stamford against him, calling him "out of touch . . . and out of town" and a "carpetbagger" in his mailings to voters.
