Oct. 26--A team that includes L-3 Communications, Waco's largest industrial employer, wants to build a fleet of cargo planes for the Army and Air Force -- and the contract would be worth billions of dollars over the long haul.
L-3 spokesman Lance Martin said the company would serve as lead contractor on the project. It would build a C-27J Spartan aircraft as part of a team that includes Alenia North America, Global Military Aircraft Systems and Boeing Integrated Defense Systems.
"This is a multibillion-dollar program," said Martin.
