Oct. 27--TOKYO -- Trading house Sumitomo Corp. reported Friday a group net profit of

102.05 billion yen in the fiscal first half, up 15.8 percent from a year earlier on the back of strong metal and transportation-related operations.

In a consolidated earnings report for April-September, the company said pretax profit rose 12.5 percent to 160.04 billion yen, on 5.25 trillion yen in revenues, up 6.6 percent.

Per-share net profit rose to 82.01 yen from 72.40 yen.
