Oct. 29--WOLF CREEK SKI AREA - Wolf Creek Ski Area celebrated its earliest opening on record Friday. With 65 inches of snowfall from September and October storms, the resort had an all-natural snow depth of 20 inches at the midway and 31 inches at its summit. The highway leading to the ski area was dry Saturday. "Opening day was great," ski area marketing and sales vice president Rosanne Pitcher said. "With 1,000 people, it was bigger than anticipated.
