Job jitters caused by the hospital industry's response to proposed health care reforms have employees in at least one local medical facility looking at joining a labor union.
Mercy Hospital and Medical Center employees will petition the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) next month to authorize a union election, according to union officials.
If approved, Mercy employees will vote on whether the Office & Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) will represent them in contract negotiations.
