Japanese prestige skin care brand SK-II has pulled out of China after toxic impurities were found in nine of its products. Traces of chromium and neodymium were reportedly discovered during regulatory checks by Chinese authorities on the Procter 19 Gamble-owned brand.

The metals can cause a range of skin and eye irritations, including eczema, and even pulmonary embolism and liver damage if consumed in a large enough amount.

SK-II said it would refund consumers who wished to return their goods following the discovery but consumer unrest was exacerbated by the news that it would take 21 days for a refund and hotlines went unanswered. Angry customers ...
