The aftershocks of 2005's hurricanes are still being felt in the maritime world and have lead to some positive changes in the way the industry conducts business.
Just as the storm-devastated areas of Louisiana and Mississippi struggle to recover and rebuild, so too is the region's maritime industry. Vessels have been salvaged or repaired, ports are rebuilding and reopening, and all along the Gulf Coast, waterways industry leaders and their government counterparts have been revisiting and rewriting emergency plans in preparation for the next big disaster.
