The Air Force last week awarded Lockheed Martin [LMT] a contract to maintain the F-117A Nighthawk stealth ground-attack fleet for the remainder of its operational service life and potentially help the service retire the aging platforms.
The contract is the five-year follow-on arrangement to the original eight-year F-117 Total System Support Partnership (TSSP) into which the company entered in FY '99. Under it, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics has been responsible for all technical and logistics support associated with the F-117, the Air Force's first operational aircraft with a radar-evading airframe.
