Oct. 30--LOCKPORT -- Six weeks after it was hailed by state and local politicians at a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the new 600-foot wall along the Erie Canal locks is cracking. An inspection last week found cracks in almost every panel of the $580,000 retaining wall along the Canal Street locks. The news raised concern among aldermen, especially since the same contractor, Oakgrove Construction of Elma, is paving on Canal Street itself and installing ornamental concrete in the area where the city has hired Ben Kendig, a Rochester developer, to restore four 19th century stone buildings.
