Nov. 2--Barbara Whitney Carr is uprooting herself as president and CEO of the Chicago Horticultural Society and its Chicago Botanic Garden. She plans to retire, but not until Sept. 1.
"I have plenty of time to make trouble yet," the 64-year-old Carr said in an interview this week.
During her 12 years leading the garden in Glencoe, Carr burnished her reputation as a prodigious fundraiser -- the society's 10-year capital campaign concluded last summer having raised $148 million, or $48 million over goal -- and as a top museum executive.
