Nov. 3--Q This is a real sad state of affairs when the 10th-largest city in the United States can't even repair its own roads. My nomination for worst road in San Jose is the offramp from south Interstate 280 onto Bird Avenue. From the train overpass to Bird, the freeway is a roller-coaster ride. I have to take my foot off the gas and coast so I don't end up airborne. And the offramp onto Bird is so rippled I steer to the right or left to avoid the jarring effects. I try to keep my tires on the ground, and my teeth in my head. Karen Leonard
