Article: East Hampton revokes Cablevision franchise. (East Hampton, New York; Cablevision Systems Corp.)

The 1992 Cable Act has provided the ammunition for a potentially unprecedented war of wills between the town of East Hampton, N.Y., and Cablevision Systems Corp.

On April 1, following assertions that Cablevision did not live up to rate and programming contractual agreements, the town board voted unanimously to revoke the system's six-and-a-half-year-old franchise effective Oct. 1, 1994.

Cablevision insists that the changes it made were mandated by the 1992 Cable Act, and that the passage of the legislation overrides the franchise requirements.
