Nov. 4--Negotiators from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and the United Steelworkers of America met formally Friday morning in Pittsburgh for the first time since the union went on strike Oct. 5, with the union insisting the company keep all its plants open. But Goodyear said it will follow through on its announcement Monday that it will close its tire plant in Tyler, Texas, next year. The meeting was called at Goodyear's request and included North American Tire Division President Jon Rich and chief negotiator Jim Allen; it lasted about 30 minutes and did not lead to any breakthroughs, according to the Steelworkers and the company. ...
