Nov. 5--A giraffe grows in Nissequogue. A stallion stops traffic in Mount Sinai. Dogs, turtles and bears keep silent, motionless, round-the-clock vigils outside homes all over Long Island. Such curious figures began turning up in the Island's yards and gardens a little more than a year ago, when Todd Arnett opened a wood carving business, Artistic Sculpting, at his Lake Ronkonkoma home. The 36-year-old artist says he has sold about 100 pieces -- and is putting the finishing touches on dozens more.
